Preparing for Jesus

Can you imagine having to make the biggest speech of your life and there is only one unique individual that can announce your grand entrance. Not only did you prepare for your speech, but this special person prepared the audience and got them excited to see and hear you.

Like John the Baptist, his mission was the preparation for the coming Messiah. It was prophesied in Isaiah 40:3 and Malachi 3:1

John the Baptist said what needed to be said:

  • John 1:23 (KJV) He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esؚá
  • Matthew 3:2 (KJV) And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. There was moral corruption and a need for repentance, a personal change of heart and to stop their worldly ways. Repentance was so important that Jesus repeated what John the Baptist said about it in Matthew 4:17 (KJV)
  • Matthew 3:12 John warned of the wrath to come.

Jesus thought highly of John the Baptist in Matthew 11:11 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: not withstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Jesus also understood preparation – John 14:2 (KJV) In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

We prepare for work, events, and vacations, but how many can say they are preparing to spend eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Prepare yourself by having a regular prayer life, reading and studying the word of God, attending Sunday school and Bible study. Help others prepare by being an example of Christ in our conduct and explaining his love for us, forgiveness, and healing.

John14:3 (KJV) And if I go prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Will you be ready?
