The only way Jesus could be about his Father’s business was to be obedient. How did Jesus accomplish this without giving up? Jesus was able to do this because he loved his Father and had a relationship with him. And having this committed relationship brought about a desire to please his Father and he knew being obedient pleased his Father. We should want exactly the same thing to please our Heavenly Father, being obedient to His word.
You may think this is too hard, well it can be too hard if you don’t know where your help comes from. Psalm 121:2 (KJV) My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Yes, it can be too hard if you don’t know that with God all things are possible. Jeremiah 32:17 (KJV) Ah Lord God! Behold thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee. Matthew 19:26 (KJV) But Jesus beheld them and said unto them, with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
There are a few stories in the Bible that demonstrates obedience and disobedience.
God told Abraham to leave his country (KJV) Gen 12:1-7
God told Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac (KJV)Gen. 22:1-18
Noah told to build the ark (KJV) Gen. 6: 1-22
God told Moses to lead the Israelites (KJV) Exodus 3:9-14
Jesus died to atone for our sins. He was obedient and about his Father’s business. Obedience is better than sacrifice. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and that alone should encourage you to be obedient to what God requires from us. If you are still having doubts that you are not strong enough to be obedient remember he left us a comforter, the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 (KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Ezekiel 36:27 (KJV) And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statues, and ye shall keep my judgements, and do them.
Jonah refused to go to Nineveh (KJV) Jonah 1:1-17
Israel in Captivity
- Reasons for captivity (KJV) 2Kings 17:7-12
- Warning from God (KJV) 2Kings 17:13
- Continued in sinful ways (KJV) 2kings 17:14-17
- God removing Israel from his sight (KJV) 2Kings 17:18-23
Is it possible to be obedient without faith? I don’t see that coming to pass, because your obedience is operated by faith. What I mean by this is without faith, trying to be obedient will be very slim. When you have faith, you trust God in all things. If you receive bad news, someone rubs you the wrong way, lose your job, the kids are acting up, etc. you will continue to be obedient to his word, it is your faith in knowing God is working it all out for your good. Without faith you are doubting God and his ways and you try to figure it out and come up with solutions on your own. Where is your faith? Matthew 6:30 (KJV) Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Where does faith come from? Romans 10: 17 (KJV) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Luke 6: 46-49 (NIV) “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? I will show you what it is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarded of them that diligently seek him. Read Hebrews 11:1-40 (KJV) to read more about those who had faith. I will be obedient, because I have faith, that should be your mindset to keep you on track to live and act accordingly. If God says go left, go left, don’t think about it just do it because it is your faith in our all mighty God that sits high and looks low. He is the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end. He said in his word he will never leave you nor forsake you.
John 10:26 (KJV) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. From this day forward stay connected to the source our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Read God’s word and spend time with him in prayer and building a relationship with him. His word is your guide and divine instructions in every situation. Obedience is better than sacrifice and mandatory in your walk with Christ.
