Put the Brakes on Fear

There is one thing that can stop you dead in your tracks. Make you second guess yourself for things you should do, refuse to do, or you tell yourself I can’t do it. This one thing I’m talking about can make you have regrets for years to come. You may ask what has that much power? I can tell you this, it doesn’t have the power all on its own, you give it power. Right now, you are probably thinking nothing or no one has that kind of control over me and I beg to differ, because everyone has dealt with this at one point in their lives. What I am referring to is FEAR. Fear can have power to the 10th degree if we don’t rely on our faith and the God who is in control of everything.

Why should we not fear? Because 2Tim1:7 (KJV) tells us explicitly, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

2Tim1-7 KJV

God said I didn’t give you that (fear) I gave you this (power, love and sound mind) and it was pointed out many times in the Old Testament: Gen. 15:1, Deut. 31:6,8, and Isaiah 41:10. Therefore, 2Tim1:7 in the New Testament reiterates what God said and what we should have learned in the Old Testament. Fear not, I am with you.

Fear is facing the uncomfortable truth. For example, the fear of helping others, those less fortunate or trusting others for the fear of being hurt. Not being truthful with someone you care about to protect yourself for the fear of being hurt. Well, what about the person you were not truthful with, they have fears too, you are not alone in your fears. It’s not just about you, don’t forget that. Fear can keep you stagnant and make you angry over the actual fear of not stretching your comfort zone a bit. How about that major decision of changing careers or starting that business you always wanted, does that sound familiar? But praise the Lord, because you have the word of God to lean on when fear wants to suffocate you. That uncomfortable truth is this, you don’t want to be hurt or disappointed if it doesn’t go as you planned it. God has the master plan, so what are you talking about it?

What does Jesus give us to help overcome fear? John 14:27 (KJV) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Live life to the fullest with less fear, more faith, and trusting and believing God has you.

  1. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” That’s an appropriate scripture you quoted there. So when we experience fear, we should always remember a verse like that.
