The Prayer of Jabez

The Prayer of Jabez

Pray. We hear it all the time and we say it even more. We tell people “pray about it.” Or we’ll say, I’ll be praying for you. We should desire a prayer life because this our time to be closer to God and talk with him on a personal level. However, the intentions of our prayers are just as important as what we actually pray about it. God knows our heart.

As you recall the book of 1Chronicles, Chapters 1-9 are dealing with the genealogies from Adam to David. Chapter 10, is concerning Saul, then we conclude with David’s reign in Chapters 11-29. Now, I want to take you back to the first nine chapters and how The Prayer of Jabez is right in the middle of the genealogies in Chapter 4: 9-10 to be exact. Then the genealogies pick up again.

And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. 1Chron 4:9-10 KJV

His mother named him Jabez because of the pain, sorrow, and grief she endured, but he was more than his name implied. He was from the respected lineage of Judah and considered more honourable than his brethren. In his prayer he asked God to bless him, enlarge his territory, to be with him, stay close and keep him from evil. God’s presence was important to Jabez for guidance and protection. And when I think about the part of the prayer when he said keep him from evil, I think about the Lord’s prayer, in Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil…

The Prayer of Jabez stands out greatly, because it’s almost like a family member telling you all about your ancestors, then right in the middle of the story they mention this one special person because of their character and their relationship with God. You would never forget that person, if only because it was important enough for your relative to interrupt one story to tell this one, then pick back up where they left off.

God answered Jabez’s passionate and faithful prayer. And this reminds me of the scripture Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; (ask in faith with submission to the will of God) seek, and ye shall find; (seek his face and favor with your whole heart) knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (stand and knock at the door of mercy, again in faith) For every one that asketh receiveth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Be Blessed.

A Prayer For You

Sitting here not knowing what to write about, but I do have a couple of topics in mind. What I know for sure is I don’t want it to be about me. I want to do God’s will and write about what God puts in my heart. This blog was created to help others draw closer to God and for those who don’t know our Savior Jesus Christ this blog will help them start their spiritual journey. Just know the God of hope and glory is with you. I love the Lord and want to tell of his goodness. I pray for you all.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for this day. Lord thank you for loving and keeping us. Thank you for the hedge of protection that surrounds us daily. God order our steps in everything we do. Lord I pray for the leaders of this country and that they show compassion for every human being and they begin to pray before every decision is made. God bless every family, supply their every need, and give them an inner peace and joy. Lord we know nothing is too hard for you and we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. We are victorious!  God you sit high and look low and you are in control.  We trust you Lord. God, we love you and we give you all the glory, honor, and praise in Jesus name Amen.
