Remember All That God has Done and Serve Him

Joshua 24 24

We have had great leaders over the centuries and not so great leaders. Leaders that can lead us in troubled times and at the same time remind us where our help comes from in times of despair. And Joshua falls in that category. I enjoy the book of Joshua because he was a great leader after Moses. He led the people in numerous battles, distributed their inheritance, and divided the land accordingly. Joshua 23:4 KJV, Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, form Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even into the great sea westward.

Joshua reminded the Israelites on several occasions what God had done for them. Joshua 23:3 And ye have seen all that the Lord your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the Lord your God is he that hath fought for you. Joshua 23:9 For the Lord hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.

Joshua then talks about the consequences of disobedience in Joshua 23:12-16, but immediately after in the Chapter 24: 3-13, Joshua reminds the Israelites again what the Lord had done for them:

And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac. And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt. I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out. And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen until the Red sea. And when they cried unto the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you. Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you: But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.  And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.

And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow. And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

God was with Israel in their comings and goings. And this is the same God, who is for you and with you when you don’t know what is going on or what is going to happen next. Every day may seem unstable and disheartening but God is the Alpha and Omega – the beginning and the end.  And whatever you experience God has not forgotten you. You are not alone. He is with you in your highs and lows. Remember when he brought you out of whatever you deemed an emergency, or vital to your own personal life. Even if you didn’t get the results you expected all things work together for your good. Amen. God is bigger than any of our circumstances, trust Him today and always. Take the time to remember what God has already done for you, obey, and serve the one who sits on the throne of grace with your whole heart.

And the people said unto Joshua, The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey Joshua 24:24 KJV.

Be Blessed

God Is Intentional

God is intentional. His word is truth and throughout the Bible God has made clear what his plans are for us. How we should live and what will happen when we disobey him. God being intentional also reveals that he is an expert in details. Here are some of those times in the Bible when God’s intentions were explicit:

  1. Explaining to Noah how to build the ark – Genesis 6:13-16

  2. That Solomon would build the temple – 1 Kings 5:2-5

  3. How to build the temple – 1Kings 6:1-38

  4. Obeying his commandments – Exodus 20:1-17

  5. The Jericho wall, how many times to march around and sound the trumpets – Joshua 6:1-5

  6. The birth of Jesus – Luke 1:35, Matthew 1:18-23

  7. The plans he has for us – Jeremiah 29-11

These are just some of the extraordinary things that God was specific about in his intentions. God tells the who, when, where, and how things shall come to pass. And this should be our goal to be intentional about living a Christ centered life, allowing the spirit of God to always lead us. Remember his intentions are for us to live in eternity with him. Be intentional in your speech and actions. Be intentional with your worship and praise. Be intentional about your relationship with God. Be intentional about telling others about the goodness of the Lord. Be intentional about helping others. Be intentional in your marriage. Displaying the fruit of the spirit and being holy should forever be intentional. We should be intentional about all things concerning the Lord and reminding ourselves that it is not about us.

Think about Paul, who once persecuted believers and then became very intentional about sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ after his conversion on the road to Damascus. And Jesus was also very intentional, he said he was about his Father’s business in Luke 2:49 and what I know for sure is that Jesus was very intentional in his actions when it came to his Father…it was all about obedience.

God was intentional about our identity, he said we are a chosen generation and a royal priesthood in 1Peter 2:9. You never have to doubt that God loves you and he doesn’t want you to fail. He gave us the word, His word, His son, and His grace. Go out each and every day and live intentionally as one that has been chosen by God.

People That Have Your Back

Two are better than one

There are people God has placed in your life for reasons that might not make sense to you at the time but then in due time, in that particular season of your life, you recognize that it is a blessing from God that they are there for you.
In Exodus 17:8-13 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
Moses didn’t go alone. All three men had history with Moses and Moses knew he could trust them because they were people God had placed in his life. When we become weak, we must be thankful for those who will be by our side, intercede on our behalf and pray for us, and stand in the gap for us. Think about those special people who will hold us up when we think we can’t go on. You don’t worry about who it is or if they are going to be there because they have proven it time and time again. God will give you what you need when you need it and that includes people too.
When you are planning a big event or birthday party, you know exactly what tasks to assign to certain people because that is what they are good at, that is their gift or talent. When you need to go to the doctor you know who to call for that too. We all have something to offer the question is are you willing to use what God has given you to help others and God get the glory. Are you the person they always call to bake the cake or do the decorations? They always call you when going through a crisis? Don’t complain, but look at it like this, they know you will have their back no matter what. Their car breaks down, two things are going to happen they are going to call the person who will pick them up it doesn’t matter what time it is and they will call their mechanic. These two people they can count on in their time of trouble. Who can you count on?
Thank you God for the people you put in our lives. Their purpose may not always be revealed immediately but we trust you Lord. God bless their gifts and talents and may their purpose be fulfilled where ever you send them and you get all the glory. And as our knowledge of you God increases may our relationship with each other grows as well. God thank you for those who are so selfless in their giving in the name of Jesus, we know that our help comes from you and that you give us others to help us, so we can see you Lord, in them, and we thank you for it, we give you all the glory, honor, and praise in Jesus name Amen.

Parents Obey God, Kids Obey Your Parents

maroon obedience

Did you do what I asked you to do? How many times did you hear that question growing up? How often have you asked your kids that same question? How many times have you did what God has asked you to do? Obedience is required, no excuses period. Parents I know you want the best for their kids from bringing them up in the right neighborhoods to wanted them to attend the best colleges. And expectations are pretty simple, do exactly what I tell you to do because I’m the parent and I know what is best for you. This is where it gets questionable, kids are being told what to do by their parents who are not doing what they are supposed to do according to the word of God, which was given by God and is truth.

We want our children to listen and obey and if they don’t there are consequences. That same principle applies to parents – to all those who are called the children of God. If you are not being obedient you are sinning. And the wages of sin is death. So as far as raising children and holding them accountable for their actions and behavior are you being the example and role model for them to follow? Is a majority of your time devoted to your career or hustle, and buying more and more stuff that by the way you can’t take with you when you die and it can’t get you into heaven, that there is no time left for God? With that being said, what are your children doing in the meantime and who are they listening to and spending time with.

Parents are always saying they want their kids to be the best they can be, I just hope that includes Jesus in their life. Who will show them what Jesus looks like and introduce them to God’s word? Kids normally do what they see. Therefore, you can’t be lukewarm and straddle the fence. You can’t be singing the praises of God at 7am and fussing and cussing people out on the phone and in your car by 8am. Shift your priorities to put God first and become doers of the word of God. Our kids need to see you in action doing the things of God, it gives them a visual and someone to emulate giving kids a pattern to follow.

Let me give you a great example of kids doing what they see their parents do and why it is not effective to say “do what I say.” Here it is, parents say always tell the truth. But they hear their parents lying to each other, to a friend, or a bill collector etc. Poor kids this can be so confusing, my parents are telling me not to do something that they do whenever it suits them. Ponder on this, how many excuses and apologies have you said before God to justify your actions and your kids do the same thing to you. We desire for our kids to get it right and God desires for us, his children to get it right. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

The following are scriptures for the family:

Duet. 6:1-7

Eph. 6:4

Proverbs 22:6

Matthew 19:14

1John 5:21

Proverbs6:20-22

Exodus 20:12

Matthew 19:19

Eph. 6-1-3

You have birth them and now you are raising them, but they belong to God just as you do. We are God’s children. In Romans 8:16-17 KJV The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. And 1 John 1:4 KJV I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

To be children of God, let’s be like our Father in heaven. Here are additional scriptures to guide your family:

Fruit of the Spirit – Gal. 5:22-23, Eph 6:5:9

Beatitudes (specific behavioral standards) Matthew 5:3-12

The Lord’s Prayer – Matthew 6:9-13

The 10 commandments – Exodus 20:3-17

In the Old Testament the Israelites had done terrible things while wandering in the wilderness with Moses. Creating a golden calf and worshipping false gods. Joshua reminded them of what God had done for them, bringing them out of Egypt and providing for them and their ancestors. Joshua explained to them that it is better to serve the Lord than false idols. In the end he let them know who will be following God. If they want to continue worshipping their false gods go right ahead, but his family would be serving the Lord. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord Joshua 24:15 KJV. Parents obey the Lord and serve him with your whole heart and in doing this, kids are obeying their parents, who are obeying their Father in heaven. I can’t imagine anything better than living in a household of faith, love, and obedience.
