My Obedience and Gratitude – God Thank You

gratitude and flowers

In order to make a sacrifice it’s going to take a commitment of obedience. The goal cannot be reached without staying the course and doing the work. Jesus came and did the work of his Father. Complete obedience. So, in knowing this I can drown out my worries and shower my thoughts with the sacrifice Jesus made for me, for us. Before his ultimate sacrifice on the cross he has taught me how to live humbly and with compassion, having the fruit of the spirit within me. Jesus thank you for your obedience and sacrifice, because I am a sinner in need of a savior. Now, it’s my turn to make the sacrifice, to deny my flesh in order to be closer to you God, making a vow of obedience to the one who created me in his image. Oh, how I count my blessings!!

I am blessed beyond measure and will not take for granted the love God has given me over the years, months, weeks, days, hours, and seconds. I cannot and will not live any old kind of way. My lifestyle of being more like Christ I will work at daily. I die to my flesh everyday with the help of the Holy Spirit and think on the things of Jesus to keep me focused and strong. God’s outpouring of love, grace, and mercy rejuvenates me and I know that I am not alone – he is with me. There are days where I immediately hit pause in my daily routine to give him the praise he deserves, and my nights belong to him too, when I have awakened to say thank you Lord for all that you do. I’m not perfect, but my heart is fully dedicated to God and being a servant to the best of my ability. Lord I pray that you forever search my heart and know that I love you mind, body, and soul.

I can’t complain because I’m breathing because of him. I can’t complain because things could be worse. I can’t complain because he first loved me. I can’t be sad because joy is running through my veins. I can’t be sad because he is there in my good and bad days. I can’t be sad because he is my God, my Father, my redeemer, my protector, the creator of all the earth. As a disciple of Christ, I am the salt of the earth where my speech will be seasoned with salt, knowing how to answer every person with love. I will keep his commandments because I do love him, John 14:15. My vow is not to stir up evil but to show love in a major way. I have the fullness of peace and will run this race to see what the end will bring, always running towards the mark. I patiently wait to hear a whisper from him in my quiet place to replenish my soul. And what I know for sure is with him I can do all things because he strengthens me. Therefore, in my obedience, I will present my body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is my reasonable service. Dear Heavenly Father this is from my heart with sincere gratitude and love.

Parents Obey God, Kids Obey Your Parents

maroon obedience

Did you do what I asked you to do? How many times did you hear that question growing up? How often have you asked your kids that same question? How many times have you did what God has asked you to do? Obedience is required, no excuses period. Parents I know you want the best for their kids from bringing them up in the right neighborhoods to wanted them to attend the best colleges. And expectations are pretty simple, do exactly what I tell you to do because I’m the parent and I know what is best for you. This is where it gets questionable, kids are being told what to do by their parents who are not doing what they are supposed to do according to the word of God, which was given by God and is truth.

We want our children to listen and obey and if they don’t there are consequences. That same principle applies to parents – to all those who are called the children of God. If you are not being obedient you are sinning. And the wages of sin is death. So as far as raising children and holding them accountable for their actions and behavior are you being the example and role model for them to follow? Is a majority of your time devoted to your career or hustle, and buying more and more stuff that by the way you can’t take with you when you die and it can’t get you into heaven, that there is no time left for God? With that being said, what are your children doing in the meantime and who are they listening to and spending time with.

Parents are always saying they want their kids to be the best they can be, I just hope that includes Jesus in their life. Who will show them what Jesus looks like and introduce them to God’s word? Kids normally do what they see. Therefore, you can’t be lukewarm and straddle the fence. You can’t be singing the praises of God at 7am and fussing and cussing people out on the phone and in your car by 8am. Shift your priorities to put God first and become doers of the word of God. Our kids need to see you in action doing the things of God, it gives them a visual and someone to emulate giving kids a pattern to follow.

Let me give you a great example of kids doing what they see their parents do and why it is not effective to say “do what I say.” Here it is, parents say always tell the truth. But they hear their parents lying to each other, to a friend, or a bill collector etc. Poor kids this can be so confusing, my parents are telling me not to do something that they do whenever it suits them. Ponder on this, how many excuses and apologies have you said before God to justify your actions and your kids do the same thing to you. We desire for our kids to get it right and God desires for us, his children to get it right. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

The following are scriptures for the family:

Duet. 6:1-7

Eph. 6:4

Proverbs 22:6

Matthew 19:14

1John 5:21

Proverbs6:20-22

Exodus 20:12

Matthew 19:19

Eph. 6-1-3

You have birth them and now you are raising them, but they belong to God just as you do. We are God’s children. In Romans 8:16-17 KJV The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. And 1 John 1:4 KJV I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

To be children of God, let’s be like our Father in heaven. Here are additional scriptures to guide your family:

Fruit of the Spirit – Gal. 5:22-23, Eph 6:5:9

Beatitudes (specific behavioral standards) Matthew 5:3-12

The Lord’s Prayer – Matthew 6:9-13

The 10 commandments – Exodus 20:3-17

In the Old Testament the Israelites had done terrible things while wandering in the wilderness with Moses. Creating a golden calf and worshipping false gods. Joshua reminded them of what God had done for them, bringing them out of Egypt and providing for them and their ancestors. Joshua explained to them that it is better to serve the Lord than false idols. In the end he let them know who will be following God. If they want to continue worshipping their false gods go right ahead, but his family would be serving the Lord. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord Joshua 24:15 KJV. Parents obey the Lord and serve him with your whole heart and in doing this, kids are obeying their parents, who are obeying their Father in heaven. I can’t imagine anything better than living in a household of faith, love, and obedience.

God’s Law Still in Question

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11 KJV

Moses is dead and Joshua is to lead the Israelites into the Promise Land and God lays down the ground rules for the law. Joshua 1:8 KJV This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

God is telling the people of Israel get my law in you, be obedient to my law and blessings will come.

Now before you go shaking your head and motioning your hand for me to stop right there because you say we are not under the law, let me explain. Then feel free to use my comment section because I would love to hear from you and I’m always willing to learn. Just remember everything we do or say we should do it in love.

Okay back to the law.

Are you thinking about Romans 6:14 KJV?  When Paul says, For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. We can’t leave out Roman 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. What Paul is telling you is that you are not under the law, but under grace with respect to your salvation. That does not mean you can sin. And since sinners are saved by God’s grace through faith in Christ many believe they are free from sin or free to sin. That is not true. The law is used for instructions to help us live in obedience to God’s word. While Christ was on earth, he was obedient at all times, showing love through his actions.

Read Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. His spirit dwells in us, to help us and if we believe in Christ and who he is, the son of God, who died for us then we will and should have the desire to please him. Be obedient to the law.

Jesus states in Matthew 5:17 -18 KJV Think not that I come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

There are three types of laws:

  • Civil Law– dealt with Israel’s worship but the principles behind these laws are to guide our conduct. These laws were more for the nation of Israel.
  • Ceremonial Law– these laws covered cleanliness, priestly laws, feasts, and festivals and how to love and worship God. The last part of that to love and worship God we should still do today.
  • Moral Law – this includes the 10 Commandments and they are timeless, this is the nature and will of God.

And one of the greatest benefits of the Bible is to know that it holds our guidelines for living in obedience to what is required of us to please God. God’s word is truth. John 17:17 KJV Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

John 14:15 KJV If you love me, keep my commandments.

Matthew: 22:36-40 KJV Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Galatians 5:14 KJV For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

1John 5:3 KJV For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. Let’s go to the Life Application Study Bible for this one, Loving God means keeping his commandments and really, that isn’t difficult. It breaks it down further than that (you really should get this study Bible) Jesus never promised that obeying him would be easy. But the hard work and self-discipline of serving Christ is no burden to those who love him. And if our load starts to feel heavy, we can always trust Christ to help us bear it.

We don’t have to question if God’s law is relevant in today’s society. Like I said before, moral laws are timeless. Know that it is and abide by it.  And we do this by Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

God’s word is law. Live in obedience and love one another, so you may receive the blessings and promises of God.

Be Blessed
