God Did Rest, So Clear Your Calendar

Driving into work earlier this week I was thinking about all the things waiting for me when I arrived, then my mind quickly jumped to the things I had to do and wanted to do once the workday released me. The to do list always seems to grow so fast. Check off one task and two more tasks magically appear. If only my hair and/or nails would grow that fast…. I’m just saying.

Do we really need to fill up our calendars?

Well in the midst of these thoughts my favorite radio program is on, “Get UP! Mornings with Erica Campbell” and her sidekick Griff was talking about rest. And of course, that was confirmation for me…nope I don’t need to fill up my calendar. I need to rest!!

What is it about saying I’ll do it or I’ll be there? Does it give us satisfaction, make us feel important and popular? And as you already know after we fulfill the professional obligations and personal invitations, we are beyond tired and again we tell ourselves I can’t keep doing this, I gotta learn to say no, a very nice no. The perfect decline should take care of it. I know my mind and body will thank me for it. REST it’s the right thing to do.

But if you are having doubts or feeling guilty for taking time to catch your breath, this is for you, God rested on the seventh day.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. (Genesis 2:2 NIV)

So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who enter into God’s rest will find rest from their labors, just as God rested after creating the world. (Hebrews 4:9-10) Life Application Study Bible.

Rest from your labor. Rest in the Lord

I say it’s time for a new to do list and #1 on this list is REST. Oh yeah and as far as the calendar, not right now, go get some rest.

God thank you for your presence and the comfort we find when we rest in you Lord. God there is peace knowing that are needs are being met even in the resting period. We can find rest for our souls because your yoke is easy and your burden is light. Your love for us is amazing Lord and we adore you, in the precious name of Jesus Amen.

To the Glory of God

You worked hard for the raise, promotion, or that VP title. You worked hard and long hours on a project. You worked hard to get to the top. You worked hard to put together the biggest party ever – from securing the location to the caterer. And for all of this hard work, what you know for sure is everyone is going to be talking about it for weeks to come and nobody can tell you that notoriety is not coming your way. The compliments and kudos, in the form of congratulatory notes, cards, emails, phone calls, text messages and we can’t forget your social media is going to blow up!!

Well here comes the disappointment. You have about 1000 followers, you received 20 congrats…and you only know seven of those twenty people. Then you tell yourself I don’t care. Yes, you do care and then comes the question, do they know just how hard I worked? The “Recognition Plan” failed as far as you are concerned.

Did you do it for the right reasons? What was your intentions? Was your heart in the right place?

Colossians 3:23-24 KJV And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Everything we do, we should do it as if we are doing it for the Lord. People will let you down and not on purpose, but because they can’t live up to your expectations, plus they are too busy trying to figure out why the people they thought they could depend on for kudos and congratulations didn’t live up to their expectations. Therefore, as you can see there seems to be enough let downs to go around…. let downs are so universal.

We don’t want the let downs. We want to be praised. However, it’s not about us and our egos. It is not about what we deem success or greatness to be or should be. And we should by all means work hard, but whatever we do, we should do it to the glory of God. Praising God in the beginning, middle and the end of our hard work. Through it all give God glory and praise.

Psalm 150:6 KJV Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

Psalm 117:1 KJV O Praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.

All praise belongs to God.
